The construction of the metro brought to light the largest archaeological excavation in Northern Greece, revealing more than 300,000 artifacts. As you commute, you have the opportunity to wander through station-museums:
- Venizelou Station: The first open archaeological site in the world located inside a metro station. Here, you can admire the Roman avenue (Decumanus Maximus) and the Byzantine market intact, preserved right in their original natural environment.
