Modiano Market

Modiano is the city's largest indoor market. The architect Eli Modiano designed the market, which opened in 1930 and has carried his name ever since. The building resembles some Parisian markets.

The market hosts produce, cheese, meat and fish shops, mainly at its street-side areas. Inside, there are both traditional and new tavernas, restaurants and bars.

It is located between Vasileos Irakliou St and Egnatia Avenue, with exits to Ermou St and Vasileos Irakliou Street.

Today, renovation and maintenance work is underway at the historic building of the Central Food Market of Thessaloniki, which is expected to reopen renewed in 2026. Management has been transferred to Ergon Agora, with the aim of transforming it into a gastronomic destination that will be a magnet for Thessalonians and tourists.
