Modiano Market

Modiano is the city's largest indoor market. The architect Eli Modiano designed the market, which opened in 1930 and has carried his name ever since. The building resembles some Parisian markets.

The market hosts produce, cheese, meat and fish shops, mainly at its street-side areas. Inside, there are both traditional and new tavernas, restaurants and bars.

It is located between Vasileos Irakliou St and Egnatia Avenue, with exits to Ermou St and Vasileos Irakliou Street.

In September 2026, the Thessaloniki Central Market opened again, with 32 shops under its historic roof. A produce stand, a butcher shop, a fish market, a bakery, a grocery store, delis, tsipouro bars, a pastry shop, a coffee shop, a wine shop, and a bar. Each with its own name and its own staff.
