Thessaloniki: The program of events for the feast of Saint Demetrius and October 28th

A program of celebratory events with particular splendor and solemnity await Thessaloniki residents and visitors who will be in the city, during the four days from October 25 to 28, in view of the national anniversaries of October 26, 1912 and October 28, 1940.

In detail, the celebration program includes:

A) For the Municipality of Thessaloniki

a. General display of flags from (8:00) in the morning of October 25 until sunset on October 28, 2024.

b. Lighting of the public shops, the OTAs, as well as the N.P.D.D. and Banks during the evening hours of October 25, 26, 27 and 28, 2024

- 11.00 am Great litanic Litanization of the holy Icons of the Virgin Mary "PHANEROMENI" and the Holy Icon of Saint Demetrius (after his graceful relics) according to the program of the Holy Metropolis of Thessaloniki.

Speeches and events in schools.

- 6.30 p.m. Grand Solemn High Priestly Vespers of the Feast, officiated by His Eminence the Metropolitan of Messinia, Mr. Chrysostomou. The Divine Word will be preached by His Beatitude the Archbishop of Athens and all Greece, Mr. Jerome.

- 8.00 am Flag Raising Ceremony at the White Tower

- 11.00 am Doxology for the liberation of Thessaloniki, in the Holy Church of the Patron Saint of Thessaloniki, Agios Dimitrios, preeminent of the Most Blessed Archbishop of Athens and all Greece etc. Hieronymou, in the presence of S.A. of the President of the Republic Mrs. Katerina Sakellaropoulou, with the participation of the State, Political, Military leadership and the Authorities of the Local Self-Government.

-6.30 p.m. Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Hall of Ceremonies: Official Celebration of the day of the Patron Saint Demetrius, the 112th anniversary of the liberation of the city and the epic of 1940, with the speech of the Solemnity of the Day by the Professor of the Department of Philosophy and Pedagogy of the University of Athens, Philimonas Paionidis, entitled "The epic of the '40s and the theory of the Just War". It will be followed by a Musical Part by the "Yiannis Mantakas" AUTH choir and the AUTH Symphony Orchestra (Detailed Program and special invitations from the Public Relations Department of AUTH).

- 12.30 p.m. Laying of wreaths at the monuments of the Heroes, the Busts and the Andriantes by student delegations, according to the program of the Directorate of Secondary Education of Eastern Thessaloniki
